The Ursa Project

The Ursa Project, founded in 2022, is a registered non-profit society located in Nelson, BC.

Our organization focuses on fostering harmony between humans and bears by actively promoting responsible and ethical coexistence, achieved through advocacy, education and outreach.

We believe that through increased awareness and collaborative efforts within our community, we can work towards achieving a significant reduction in the number of bears killed each year due to conflict. Our objective is to cultivate a greater sense of tolerance and respect for their right to safe and peaceful existence, as an important species in our habitat.

Our petition has already received nearly 25,000 signatures, which will go a long way in urging the city of Nelson to adopt Bear Smart policies. By doing so, we hope to reduce the number of bears that are euthanized.
